Travel Tips & Advice

  • Travel Details

Guests should either fly directly into the British Virgin Islands, which is the home port of Paloma’s, or to the US Virgin Islands, from where they can easily reach Paloma.

Passports are required for entry into the Caribbean Islands for all nationalities including US Citizens. Passports and Visas must have expiration dates more than 6 months from charter date.

Our Captain will provide a mobile phone number and email addresses to be notified immediately of any changes to guests’ travel plans.

  • Luggage

Soft luggage or duffle bags are recommended because they are easier to stow.

Once onboard, there is enough storage space to hang and store guests’ belongings.

  • Packing

    Avoid over-packing!

Clothing in the islands is usually casual, although there are some exclusive clubs and restaurants where dressier apparel is appropriate. You will need swimwear, a few pairs of shorts/skirts and summer tops (or dresses), a light-weight sweater or cover up and a pair of long pants as it can be cool on the water at night.

Bring sun-hats or visors. Polarized sunglasses are best for the glare off the water.

Street shoes are prohibited on deck. You can go barefoot, or wear clean, non-marking, soft-soled shoes.

While there is a first aid kit on board, you should bring any medication with you that you would normally have or use at home.

  • Toiletries & Amenities

Each cabin has high-end shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap and body lotion, in addition to hair dryers (including 2 Dyson Supersonic hair dryers with 5 styling tools).

Power plugs and voltage follow the European standard (220-240 volt). Each cabin has charging cables for multiple devices (Micro-USB, USB-C and iP connectors).

There are towels for the bathrooms and for swimming (guests wearing tanning lotions should use the darker coloured towels).

  • Kids

There are life jackets onboard for adults and kids, useful in particular for water sports. Very young guests might benefit from bringing additional, lighter, floating vests for swimming.

The bunk beds cabin is perfect for kids. For increased safety of the little ones, the top beds have safety railings as an option.

Paloma has board games, cards and drawing kits specifically aimed at entertaining younger guests.  Most water toys and activities are also suitable for kids.

  • Internet & Cellular

Reception is much slower in the Caribbean. Guests are advised to deactivate any automatic uploads to the Cloud or Dropbox. Contact your mobile phone provider to find out about coverage, rates and options for travel in the Caribbean.

For general use, Paloma offers WiFi via Starlink.

  • Sun & Sea

The Caribbean sun is strong and high-factor sunscreens are advised. Please note that tanning oils, aerosol sprays, pump bottles or tinted sunscreens can cause the decks to become extremely slippery and stain cushions and teak.

The Caribbean water temperature is usually between 78-83 degrees. To provide sun protection and warmth during long snorkels, we suggest bringing rash guards and/or nylon snorkel shirts.

  • Meals

Upon booking Paloma, guests will receive a preference form to provision the yacht accordingly. The Chef will plan a menu based on guests’ likes/dislikes.

Please let the Chef know if you have any food allergies or dietary requirements before you arrive.
